Only on older models (P30, Mate 20 and earlier) — those kept a Google licence. From Mate 30 (2019) and all P40+ models Huawei uses HMS (Huawei Mobile Services) with AppGallery as the app store. WhatsApp, Telegram, Spotify, Netflix work via AppGallery. Honor devices from Magic 3 (2021) onwards have GMS and Google Play Store again.
GMS = Google Mobile Services (Play Store, Google apps, auth). HMS = Huawei Mobile Services (AppGallery, Huawei auth, Petal Search). HMS apps can be installed via APK — but banking apps with Google auth often refuse to run.
XMAGE is Huawei's own photo brand since P60 (2023) — successor to the Leica partnership (which ran from P9 to P50). XMAGE covers photo tuning, algorithms and camera module branding.
It was — until November 2020. Due to US sanctions Huawei sold its Honor division. Since then Honor has been independent and has its Google licence back. Honor Magic, View and Honor 90 are stand-alone devices today.
Yes — shipped from our Basel warehouse, A-Post 1-2 working days, express next business day or free in-store pickup. Free above CHF 15.
Huawei structures its smartphones into multiple lines. P series is the photo flagship line — P30 Pro (last with Google services, 2019), P40 Pro, P50 Pro/Pocket, P60 Pro, P70 Ultra (now with XMAGE instead of Leica branding). Mate series is business/premium — Mate 30 Pro, Mate 40 Pro, Mate 50 Pro, Mate 60 Pro+ (with satellite communication). Nova serves the young mid-range, Y series is budget, MediaPad (today MatePad) covers tablets. Honor was a Huawei sub-brand until November 2020, sold off due to sanctions and independent ever since — Honor devices (Magic, View, Honor 90 etc.) have GMS again and are independent of the HMS ecosystem.
Huawei Mobile Services since Mate 30 (2019) — due to US sanctions Huawei cannot license new Google apps since May 2019. Existing models (P30, Mate 20) kept Google Play Store, newer models (Mate 30+, P40+, everything from 2020) use only HMS. Instead of Play Store you get AppGallery (Huawei's app store) and Petal Search (an app aggregator pulling from APKPure and other sources). WhatsApp, Telegram, Spotify, Netflix all work via AppGallery. Google apps (Maps, Gmail, YouTube) must be opened as web apps or via third-party clients. Leica partnership ran at Huawei from P9 (2016) to P50 (2021) — then Huawei switched to its own brand XMAGE. Honor devices from Magic 3 (2021) onwards have GMS and Google Play Store again.
Cases are model-specific — P40 Pro and P50 Pro have differently shaped camera modules. Mate 60 Pro+ has the distinctive octagon camera island. USB-C is standard on all current Huawei models. Tempered glass — P Pro and Mate Pro have curved displays (hydrogel or UV adhesive glass), Y series has flat displays (classic tempered glass is enough). Wireless charging — Mate Pro and P Pro support 50-66 W wireless with Huawei's SuperCharge wireless pad.
For cyclists we recommend outdoor cases with up to 2 m drop protection plus handlebar mount. Car commuters benefit from cases with magnetic plate (Huawei has NO MagSafe). Business users pick wallet cases — the Mate series is built for this target group. Photo enthusiasts pick slim cases so the distinctive camera modules stay clean.
We repair Huawei and Honor devices in our Basel, Aarau and Olten stores. Typical anchor pricing — Huawei screen repair CHF 180-400 depending on model (service-pack), battery swap CHF 80-120, MediaPad/MatePad screen CHF 250-400. Repairs are particularly worthwhile because Huawei devices have long Swiss lifespans (HMS models continue to receive security patches).
Sustainable options — cases made of recycled TPU, bio-based polycarbonate, packaging in FSC recycled cardboard. Best-price guarantee CH.
