Few accessories spark as much debate as phone camera protection. Modern devices like the iPhone 15/16/17 Pro, Galaxy S24/S25 or Pixel carry huge, strongly protruding camera modules that touch the table first when you set the phone down. So the question is fair: does an extra piece of glass really protect the lenses, or do you just add reflections and image errors to your photos?
Why the camera is at risk at all
On current flagships the camera module often sticks out 2 to 4 mm beyond the back. Put the phone on a table without a case and its full weight rests on that rim and the lenses. Sand, stone dust or a key in the same pocket leave fine scratches. Those scratches sit right in the light path and show up against backlight as a milky haze or flare, especially annoying on expensive Pro cameras with bright lenses.

Pros and cons weighed honestly
The biggest upside is clear: protection from scratches and dust, and a scratched camera glass is often cheaper to replace than the whole back panel.
