Galaxy S generations at a glance

S5 (2014) launched with plastic back and Micro-USB, S6 Edge introduced curved AMOLED in 2015, S8 (2017) brought USB-C and Infinity Display, S10 (2019) added in-display ultrasonic fingerprint, S20 (2020) launched 5G, S22 Ultra (2022) integrated the S Pen and ended the Note line, S24 (2024) introduced Galaxy AI and S25 (2025) switched to optical in-display fingerprint. Charging: 15 W Qi since S6, 25 W USB-C from S10, 45 W from S22 Ultra.

Which accessory fits which model?

Three transitions determine accessory choice:

• Charging port — S5/S6/S7 = Micro-USB. S8 and newer = USB-C
• Wireless Qi — since S6 (15 W). Reverse wireless from S10 (4.5 W)
• S Pen — only Ultra from S22 Ultra. S25 Ultra ships with S Pen but WITHOUT Bluetooth (Air Actions gone)
• Display shape — S6 Edge through S22 Ultra curved AMOLED, S23 Ultra onwards flatter. Curved cases and hydrogel only for curved models
• Drop protection — outdoor cases up to 2 m drop, premium up to 5 m

Pick the case by your routine

For cyclists we recommend crossbody cases with adjustable strap. Car commuters reach for magnet-ring cases (Galaxy does not use MagSafe — magnet-ring adapters work). Business users choose wallet cases with RFID protection, travellers go for outdoor bumpers. Sustainable options: cases from recycled plastic, recycled aramid fibre or bio-based TPU.

Repairs & spare parts

In our stores in Basel, Aarau and Olten we repair every Galaxy S generation — display, battery, back cover, charging port, rear camera. A full display repair typically runs CHF 200–400, 30–50% cheaper than a refurbished replacement device. A case from CHF 9 amortises on the first drop.

Which Galaxy S do I have?

Under "Settings → About phone → Model number" you find the model code (SM-Gxxx or SM-Sxxx). S22 Ultra = SM-S908, S23 = SM-S911, S24 = SM-S921, S25 = SM-S931.

Does the Galaxy S25 Ultra still have a Bluetooth S Pen?

No — Samsung removed Bluetooth from the S25 Ultra S Pen. Air Actions and remote shutter are gone. The S24 Ultra was the last Ultra with a BT S Pen.

Does MagSafe work on Galaxy S?

No — MagSafe is Apple-proprietary. On Galaxy S, MagSafe mounts only work with magnet-ring adapter cases.

Which cable does the Galaxy S5/S6/S7 need?

Micro-USB. S8 and all newer charge via USB-C. From S22 Ultra up to 45 W Super Fast Charging 2.0.

How long will I receive updates?

Samsung guarantees 7 years of OS updates from S24, 4 years for S22/S23, 3 years for older models. Security patches 1 year beyond OS.
