The model number on the bottom of the charging case (e.g. “A2698”) reveals the generation. Alternatively in the Bluetooth list on iPhone under “Settings → Bluetooth → AirPods → About”.

Active Noise Cancelling is only on AirPods Pro 1/2/3, AirPods 4 with ANC and AirPods Max. Standard AirPods 1, 2, 3 and 4 without ANC have no noise cancellation.

Pro 2 from 2022 with MagSafe case: Lightning. Pro 2 USB-C from Sep 2023: USB-C. Both versions are otherwise identical. Apple now only ships the USB-C variant.

No — Pro cases have a different shape (rounder, with stem cut-out). AirPods 3/4 need their own case design. AirPods Max has its own Smart Case.

AirPods Pro 1+, AirPods 3, 4, Pro 2/3 and Max (USB-C) have Find My with speaker. You can ring them via the iPhone Find My app. Original AirPods 1 and 2 only have Bluetooth location search.
