The iPad Mini 6 (2021) is Apple's major Mini redesign with the A15 Bionic chip and an LED Liquid Retina 8.3″ display with slim bezels. First Mini with USB-C port, Touch ID side button instead of home button, and Apple Pencil 2 support (wireless magnetic pairing and charging on the long side). A15 Bionic chip in iPad Mini 6 (2021).
Four case types are popular. Smart Folio folds front and back as a magnetic folio, wakes the iPad on opening and supports a stand and a writing angle — ideal for the Mini format. Smart Cover only covers the front — lighter, but no back protection. Hardshell cases in PC + TPU offer better drop protection for backpack and travel — especially useful for commuters and on the go. Leather cases look elegant and develop patina. Sleeves and carry bags are useful additionally if you carry the Mini without a case. Important: cases for older Mini generations (Mini 5 and earlier with home button and Lightning) do NOT fit — the Mini 6 has a completely new chassis. Cases from the Mini 7 also do not fit (different Pencil magnet zone).
Three protection types are common. Tempered glass offers the highest protection against impact and scratches — the standard pick if you don't use the Pencil. Anti-glare films reduce reflections — useful at the park, near windows or under office lighting. Paper-feel films have a matt, slightly textured surface that makes writing and drawing with the Apple Pencil 2 noticeably more pleasant — almost like paper — and reduce Pencil slipping. A must for notes, sketchnotes and illustration apps such as Procreate, Notability or GoodNotes. Note: paper-feel films wear down the Pencil tip a bit faster — replacement tips are available individually.
The iPad Mini 6 (2021) is compatible with Apple Pencil 2 (wireless magnetic pairing and charging on the long side, double-tap to switch tools) and Apple Pencil USB-C. Apple Pencil 1 does NOT work — Pencil 1 charges via Lightning while the Mini 6 has USB-C. Apple Pencil Pro is also NOT compatible — it is reserved for the Mini 7. We carry matching Pencil tips (standard, paper-feel tips for matt films, softer tips), Pencil grips in silicone or leather, and Pencil cases with carabiner. The Apple Pencil USB-C is the cheapest Pencil option but does not support pressure.
There is no official Apple Magic Keyboard for the iPad Mini 6 (2021) — those are reserved for iPad Pro and iPad Air. Instead we stock Bluetooth keyboard folio cases from third-party brands that combine protection and keyboard, as well as standalone Bluetooth keyboards such as the Apple Magic Keyboard, Logitech K380 or Keychron, which you can pair flexibly with multiple devices. For longer writing sessions a separate Bluetooth keyboard is often more comfortable than a folio with smaller keys.
