iPad 10.9” (10. Gen) Case, Smart Folio & Protection

Four case types are popular. Smart Folio folds front and back as a magnetic folio, wakes the iPad on opening. Smart Cover only covers the front. Hardshell cases in PC + TPU offer better drop protection for school and travel. Leather cases look elegant. Sleeves and carry bags are useful additionally. Important: cases from the iPad 10.2″ (9th Gen) do NOT fit — the 10th Gen has a completely new chassis without home button. Cases from the iPad 10.9″ (11th Gen, 2025) often fit with minor cutout differences — always check the explicit model “10th Gen” or “2022” or chip “A14”.

Three protection types are common. Tempered glass offers the highest protection. Anti-glare films reduce reflections. Paper-feel films have a matt, slightly textured surface that makes writing and drawing with the Apple Pencil noticeably more pleasant. A must for notes, sketchnotes and illustration apps such as Procreate, Notability or GoodNotes. Note: paper-feel films wear down the Pencil tip a bit faster.

The iPad 10.9″ (10th Gen, 2022) is compatible with Apple Pencil USB-C and Apple Pencil 1 (with USB-C adapter). Apple Pencil 2 and Apple Pencil Pro are NOT compatible — they are reserved for iPad Pro and iPad Air. Apple Pencil USB-C is the cheapest option without pressure sensitivity. For regular drawing, choose Pencil 1 with pressure sensitivity — the adapter is usually included with the Pencil 1 or available individually.

There is no official Apple Magic Keyboard for the iPad 10.9″ (10th Gen, 2022). Instead we stock Bluetooth keyboard folio cases such as the Logitech Combo Touch (with trackpad) and the Apple Magic Keyboard Folio designed specifically for the 10th Gen — a detachable folio with trackpad and function row.

The iPad 10.9″ (10th Gen, 2022) has a USB-C port. You can connect external SSDs, 4K monitors (via HDMI adapter or USB-C hub), USB-C hubs with HDMI/SD card reader/USB-A and power-delivery adapters up to 30 W. We stock USB-C cables, USB-C hubs with HDMI/SD/USB-A, USB-C power adapters and USB-C audio adapters (3.5 mm jack).

Which case fits the iPad 10.9″ (10th Gen, 2022)?

Cases are sized exactly for this generation. Cases from the iPad 10.2″ (9th Gen) do NOT fit — the 10th Gen is a completely new chassis design.

Apple Pencil USB-C and Apple Pencil 1 (with USB-C adapter) are compatible. Apple Pencil 2 and Pencil Pro are NOT compatible.

The iPad 10.9″ (10th Gen, 2022) has a USB-C port — the first basic iPad with USB-C. It works with USB-C cables, USB-C hubs, external SSDs and power-delivery adapters.

Complete redesign: 10.9″ display without home button, Touch ID side button, USB-C instead of Lightning, A14 chip instead of A13, front camera in landscape orientation for video calls. But: the Pencil pairing solution is awkward (Pencil 1 needs a USB-C adapter).
