First question: which MacBook generation? Hard cases are cut precisely for the model series — MacBook Air M2/M3 13″ (A2681/A3113) is dimensioned differently from the older Air M1 (A2337). When in doubt, the model number on the bottom helps. Matte hides scratches and fingerprints, glossy looks more premium but shows micro-scratches sooner. Transparent keeps the original Apple look, but the material can yellow slightly over time.
ABS hard cases are robust and scratch-resistant — mid-price standard. Polycarbonate offers higher impact resistance and clarity (great for transparent shells). TPU-coated hard cases are soft on the inside and hard on the outside for the best drop protection — recommended for bike commuters and travellers. Look for BPA-free material and REACH compliance.

Modern hard cases solve both: large ventilation cut-outs at the bottom keep the MacBook''s underside temperature identical to the bare machine, residue-free silicone pads prevent adhesive marks.
