Swiss weather calls for a water-repellent outer skin (PU-coated polyester, Cordura) and ideally a rain cover in a bottom compartment. Premium packs use YKK zips, double-stitched shoulder straps and hidden anti-theft compartments at the back (RFID-blocking for cards, no quick-access while worn). Premium brands like Peak Design, Aer and Bellroy offer magnetic quick-access and 360°-padded notebook cradles.
Notebook compartments follow inch classes: 15.6″ compartment fits MacBook Air 15″, Pro 14″ and generic 15.6″. 16″ compartment fits MacBook Pro 16″ and generic 15.6″ with padding to spare. Check inner dimensions: MacBook Pro 16″ measures 35.5 × 24.8 cm — so a compartment ≥ 37 cm tall and ≥ 26 cm wide. Tablet slots are usually sized for 11–13″ (iPad Pro 13″, iPad Air 13″, Surface Pro).
Ergonomic packs have S-curved padded shoulder straps, a chest and hip strap for hikes and a breathable mesh back. The external USB port is not a battery — it routes a cable from a powerbank in an inner pocket to the outside, so you can charge an iPhone or watch while wearing the pack.
